As the school year goes on, the girls continue to shift in groupings with how they interact with each other, especially when it comes to either homework or craft sessions. Akari and Chinatsu end up working with a few others like Sakurako to do some projects and the interactions are certainly fun to watch, especially since for the most part it avoids the kind of stuff that Kyoko often brings to the table in lusting after others. But she does get to have her fun with them along the way sometimes as we see her helping out with a call to them ad getting Sakrako to do some headstands on her bed to help, even though helping is the last thing that the headstands actually do.

The episode performs as usual with some of the fun kinds of shifts that it often does and eventually we do get back to the core group, though one that’s a bit complicated as Chinatsu is stuck inside the closer at the club room and can’t get out since she overheard the others talking. She missed her opportunity to just come out and get involved and instead is now overhearing things that while not bad, make for an awkward situation. Her imagined ways of getting out of the situation are comical and definitely remind of Akari and her mental processes in trying to deal with some difficult situations.

The show also has some good fun with a sleepover that happens as Chinatsu spends time with Akari and ends up in a rather big panic over the course of the night, thinking something’s going to get her. Which does happen, not quite as she imagined, but it provides the right kind of late night laughs that make you like her all the more. Things like this are always fun and along with a few other small segments along the way, it works well to balance the cast as it’s grown, especially with other family members having entered the picture more recently as well.

In Summary:
Yuru Yuri hits some of the familiar notes here as it moves through the short varied stories, some obviously running longer than others. As is often the case, some of them definitely work better and are more memorable, but this episode in general doesn’t really hit anything that stands out long term here. I love the sleepover sequence as it used a few different things hovering over her head while she tried to keep her eyes closed and I enjoyed the struggle inside the closet story, but something just felt lacking overall. Plenty of grins and a few giggles to be had here but the lack of Kyoko overall definitely hampered it for me.
