The Review:
Axe Cop has been a huge hit since it debuted in December 2009. It is a unique collaboration between brothers Ethan (age 31) and Malachai (age 8) that grew from a game they played one Christmas. Malachai played Flute Cop and Ethan played Axe Cop and the story Malachai weaved around their game was so entertaining that Ethan (a comic book artist) decided to make it into a comic.
It’s difficult to describe what happens in this issue, because quite a bit goes on. You can almost hear Malachai going “and then Axe Cop becomes President of the world. And then he runs into a talking gorilla. And then it’s a million years in the future” and so forth. Axe Cop is President of the world and the planet experiences unprecedented peace and prosperity thanks to Axe Cop chopping off the heads of all the bad guys. The citizens are worried that the bad guys will come back, so Axe Cop prays to God and finds out that the Earth will experience one million years of peace thanks to a force field God places around the planet. When that force field wears off, enemies from space will attack, so Axe Cop must make preparations for the non-imminent invasion.
Telling any more of the plot would give away the fun. Part of the joy of this comic is turning the page and seeing what happens next. Ethan does a great job of turning what must be a jumbled mess from his brother into a coherent story, and the sheer fun of the ideas Malachia comes up with make this a charming book.
In Summary:
Created by brothers Ethan and Malachai Nicolle (ages 31 and 8, respectively), Axe Cop: President of the World is a fun, crazy story that could only come from the mind of a child. Axe Cop is now President of the world and he finds out from God that the Earth will experience one million years of peace thanks to a force field God places around the planet. To say any more would ruin the fun of this book, which I urge everyone to pick up. This is great fun.
