Sket Dance Episode #68 Anime Review

It’s not exactly a May-December romance…

The Review:
While there aren’t many adults in the show, which does get to be a problem at times, when we do have them involved it gets to be a lot of fun. What also helps is that things start to get expanded with them a bit in a way that makes you like them all the more, though there is some mildly amusing creepy factor to it as well. What we learn at the start here, which is surprising to me since I don’t remember it before, is that Chuu-san has a young daughter named Suzu. And Suzu has taken a real liking to Onee-san as she gets her to do a lot of things with her. And Onee-san has feelings for Chuu-san, but it’s unrequited and unknown at the moment for him since he’s the typical oblivious male. Seeing the small but honest way that she’s in love with him is great and Suzu is completely behind it and understands where Onee-san is coming from. She even says plainly that she’d like her to be her new mom. One young and hot mom, that is.

So naturally, the pair end up in the Sket Club where they’re taken with Chuu’s daughter and completely behind any plan that they can come up with to hook up this young hot teacher with the middle aged teacher that has helped and supported her. Bossun in particular really gets behind it all in a passionate way, even if it all revolves around Suzu’s mysterious love potion that they want to get Chuu-san to take. So while you know the plan is goofy, there’s a lot of fun in seeing how it unfolds, especially the way Suzu pushes her father into seeing Onee-san over the weekend as she truly shows her age. To be fair to Chuu-san, he says that she probably won’t be interested in spending time with them again since he views them as being a burden on her, which makes it all the more enjoyable.

With the first half leading up to that date time wherein the special sauce will be employed, the second half capitalizes on it as they eat out together and everything is put into motion. Watching as the Sket Club views from afar while trying to get the drug into his system is comical, especially with how Onee-san does everything she can to facilitate things. While the humor is a bit different in the second half, it also leads into the moments of honest for Onee-san as she talks about her feelings with regards to Chuu-san. Suzu gets caught up in it in a way as well and you can definitely feel for how Chuu-san tries to deflect, thinking that he’s not good for her and using Suzu’s manipulations as to why she feels like she does. It’s complicated yet not and works perfectly.

In Summary:
With an amusing bit of truth revealed towards the end, especially with the ages of the two adults, things go really well here overall. There’s a lot to like with this episode if you like these two characters as they dominate it and really work a full episode story that’s broken up into two halves in a good, seamless way. While Chuu-san gets on my nerves with his science sometimes, I really like him as a character here as a father and in seeing him with Suzu. With Onee-san, she’s been a favorite since she was introduced but the revelation about her age has you wanting to revisit older episodes to take a look at her in a new light. And the Sket Club serves a great support role here in what they do which definitely fits the situation just right. Very fun stuff.
