It’s back to the school life and that means plenty of time in the club room.

The return of Yuruyuri brought about more of the same, which for a show like this is a good thing. Giving us a dream version of Akari before and then having fun with the cast heading off to a ski and spa resort let us have a whole lot of silliness without much of anything in the way of angst or problems. Well, unless you were Kyoko and just wanted to get busy with so many of the girls you were around. The real fun was just in seeing Akari’s dream version of how she wants to be viewed and dealt with, showing us clearly that she just wants happy positive stuff all the time and no real stresses or problems she can’t handle. Which certainly says a lot about her in general, even as it was a whole heck of a lot of fun to watch.
This episode gives us a lot of time with the girls just hanging out in the clubroom, which is admittedly a big part of the draw for the series since watching them just act natural and engage in silly discussion is what drew people originally. With the core group of four here, they talk about all sorts of things, including a lengthy dialogue about nicknames which has Kyoko and Yui putting on a little show, not that Yui is all that interested in it. Kyoko of course takes it further than is warranted, which is comical, as she uses some oranges to make a parody of Akari where they’re used for her hair style at first and then boob missiles. Poor Chinatsu takes an even harsher hit with just the orange peels being used which has her giving Kyoko a less than flattering look.
The second half shifts to other characters as it unfolds and we get some fun with Sakurako and her gang as they deal with a snake that has gotten into the school. While there’s some squeamishness on the part of the girls. Sakurako does her best to be brave and get it dealt with, though not to wonderful results, even if they are hilarious. The show does delve into other areas, such as how the girls are talking about what would happen if they’re sick, but it’s the kind of shift that does work rather well in its own way since the series knows how to make scene shifts just right, owing to its short form original source nature. There’s also the fact that Kyoko is great at changing the course of any direction and making it fun since there’s always a hint of playfulness about her true intentions.
In Summary:
Yuruyuri doesn’t stray from the formula here in the slightest but I’ll be damned if it doesn’t win points just for Kyoko spending some time doing an air hula hoop. I think I can honestly say I’ve never seen that in anime before, and I’ve seen a lot of anime, so something like that with her expression just makes me grin like a fool. The show has a pretty relaxed air about it overall and it gets us back into the program with how the girls usually are when they’re at school and at their club, so it’s a good thing to do after the less than ordinary episode we had that kicked off the season. Kyoko does tend to steal scenes in a big way throughout but it never feels forced or unnatural. She really just is that kind of friend that a lot of people know and have.
