With some of the revelations we’ve gotten over the last couple of episodes with what’s gone on during the five years, it’s no surprise that more revelations are in store that showcase how some of the heroes have fallen. In particular, this episode opens with a look at Red Arrow as we see that he does do some justice dealing out there, but it’s not something that’s completely for the positive. Stopping a robbery is a good thing, but holding back some of the cash that was stolen for himself isn’t. And it’s something that Green Arrow observes, which definitely doesn’t sit well with him. The two have a long relationship together so it’s not something he’s going to just let sit and happen for long now that he knows about it.

And he’s bringing a pretty good group with him to deal with it, such as Nightwing, Kid Flash and Black Canary. Considering his role as the mole before and all the manipulations that must have gone on, he’s fallen in a pretty bad way. What’s worse is that he has seemingly legitimate reasons for it as he’s using all the funds he can get in order to find the real Roy, aka Speedy, that went missing when he took over the role some six years ago. The whole thing plays out like an intervention, but it’s pretty necessary since you have someone like the former Guardian here that has experience with the clone side of things and what it means. It’s pretty nicely done as it works through some good character material rather than just action, action and more action. Story counts. And so do characters.

On the flip side, we get some bigger action material in this episode with the team up between Superboy and Blue Beetle as Connor is looking to get out of the base for awhile since he can’t stand seeing Lagoon Boy and Megan together. And they lucked out because there’s an Intergang operation going on that they’ve come across to deal with. While the events at the Hall of Justice will invariably have larger meaning, it does serve as the big action point to the show as we get A’Dair and her boss using some technology reminiscent of Apokalips, which sets a lot of things off. What works well for this episode is that it lets Blue Beetle to be used in a very positive way, screwups and all, while also tackling what the previous Blue Beetle was all about and the connection between the two with the suit.

In Summary:
Young Justice plays though some good material here, especially with the intervention that goes on with Red Arrow. While it may not play out exactly like one would like, there’s some very fun and engaging character material here that does go pretty far back to some of the core issues and presents it in the right light. On other side, the team-up of Blue Beetle and Superboy here to deal with a subplot of the season is pretty fun as it uses a combination creature as the enemy, though it has its own issues as well. It gives us a variety of action, some emotion and a greater understanding of Blue Beetle that, for me, finally made him an accessible character. It’s a lot of fun here and definitely a good episode.
