Mark Hamill Retires As ‘Joker’

2 min read

It’s another end of an era for fans of Mark Hamill as the man that has voiced a significant amount of Joker roles in the various DC Comics animated and game incarnations over the years has voiced his last role. While he made the news about this back in 2010, he made it clearer again on Twitter by saying “I’ve enjoyed every minute behind the wheel of the Crown Prince’s crazy car — I’m going to miss him more than I can say!!” after the release of Batman: Arkham City this past week.

Hamill, who obviously rose to fame as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars movies, has been involved in various comic book materials for quite a long time, including a brief stint in the live action Flash series. But it’s his voice work as the Joker in the Batman: The Animated Series that really cemented him for a whole other generation of admirers as what he did that had him also doing future spin off series, video games and the occasional direct to video Batman film. Hamill also took on the role of Joker in non-Batman series, such as Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League and even an episode of Static Shock.

One of the best moments that really cemented his presence as an iconic voice of Joker came with the Birds of Prey TV series that was far too short as they used his voice for a flashback sequence that involved the live action Joker.
