Hal gets a ring again, with some caveats.

The Review:
Having Sinestro becoming a Green Lantern again was a very interesting move by Geoff Johns. Here we have one of the core villains from the Green Lantern’s history becoming a ‘good guy’ again and showing up on Earth to speak to Hal Jordan, now ring-less and destitute. This issue continues with that story by showing Hal’s rage and desperation. Funnily, Sinestro uses his ring to create a ring for Hal. A ring that gives Hal his GL powers back but only with the strength and capabilities that Sinestro allows.
I found this development not just extremely interesting but a lot of fun too! Here we have two enemies that have fought for years and now not only have the tables turned slightly but Hal is at the whim of Sinestro. Sinestro controls Hal’s ring all the way up to the point of being able to simply turn off its powers at a moments notice. The morality of Hal’s world is brought into question by Sinestro as well. Sinestro was banished from being a GL because of how he tried to rule his homeworld. As an enemy these were values that Sinestro held onto as being the ‘right thing’ and for the good of his planet. In this book Sinestro reiterates his points of view and with Hal in the situation he is in Hal has no choice but to follow.
GL is almost always a good read. This story looks to take everything we know and spin it on its head. What if Sinestro was right all these years? How will Hal ultimately be affected by all of this? These are fascinating questions that are set to a fast paced, lively, action packed story that entertains the crap out this series! With the issue ending with SInestro revealing his aim and reason for recruiting Hal the next few issues are guaranteed to be full of excitement and plenty of interested revelations.
In Summary:
The new Green Lantern series started off being good with a lot of potential to being awesome! In the span of a single issue we are given enough background to catch up newbies to the basic concept, two terrifically rendered action scenes, and a premise that will be full of action and excitement but also a rebirth for Hal. How the fates of these two characters turns out is a complete mystery but the journey is shaping up to be well worth it despite the destination.
