Lucas Talks Planned ‘Star Wars’ TV Series

2 min read

A Wookie, a Droid and a Bounty Hunter walk into a bar…

While that may not exactly be the plot for an episode of any future Star Wars TV series, George Lucas does have a lot of material in mind. After six movies, a CG TV series that’s going into its fourth season in the fall, countless novels and comics and oh so much more, there is still vocal demand for something more. And Lucas, talking to the New York Post, explained how he has some fifty hours worth of stories in mind for the long gestating but never realized Star Wars TV series he wants to do. Why hasn’t it come to fruition yet? He says that his team is looking for “a different type of technology we can use so it’s economically feasible to shoot the shows.” With him being used to shooting big scale, big budget and so forth, working it into a TV marketplace isn’t easy so that’s where things stand, which is pretty much nowhere since they’re still looking for said technology doesn’t exist yet according to him.

Still, there’s plenty of potential for such a series that even long time jaded fans such as myself would be eager to see come to life. With Star Wars: The Clone Wars covering some fairly serious material most of the time in between the second and third prequel movies, this incarnation is supposed to deal with the time period between Episode III and Episode IV. Of course, things are always subject to change and we’ve seen plenty of hot air on the subject before. Case in point is back in 2007 when producer Rick McCallum said that it could run for up to 400 episodes and “it’s something that can go on for years and years. One of the ideas is that we’ll have multiple series going on in about two or three years’ time.

Suffice to say, they’ve been throwing a lot of stuff at the fan (and fans) since first talking about it back in 2005 and so far nothing has really stuck. I’m rooting for a Cheers version of Star Wars that just takes place in cantina.

  1. I had my doubt about the clone wars tv show until I started to watch it and became an instant fan. I will be willing to give this a try. I wonder if it will be live action or animated?
